Burleson rallies against upstart Joshua to get to rare 5-0 mark

Burleson is off to its first 5-0 start since 2004 after defeating the Joshua Owls at home Friday night. Joshua lead most of the game but Burleson came up big, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jacob Amador found Aden Anderson for a 71-yard touchdown pass, cutting the Owls’ lead to 14-10. Later, Amador rushed for the deciding touchdown on a one-yard keeper. With 1:14 remaining, Joshua quarterback Josh Kelso was picked off by Sam Martin of Burleson. This allowed the Elks to run down the clock and end the game, winning 17-14.

Key players: Anderson caught four passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Amador scored his eighth rushing touchdown of the season. Stetson Gunter had two interceptions in the first half for Joshua, putting the Owls in great field position each time.

Key stat: Despite losing the turnover battle four to one, the Burleson defense was able to hold Joshua to only 174 yards of offense.

Records: Burleson 5-0, 2-0 in District 9-5A; Joshua 3-2, 1-1
