Fort Worth South Hills rides running back’s big plays past Saginaw
Fort Worth South Hills running back Anthony Watkins scored on three long plays Thursday as the Scorpions defeated Saginaw 29-13 at Scarborough-Handley Field.
Key players: Watkins returned the opening kickoff for a 90-yard touchdown and rushed for scores of 84, 48 and 2 yards. Saginaw got touchdown runs from Patrick Hayes and Kameron Williams. Williams’ scoring run cut the South Hills lead to 16-13 late in the third quarter, but Watkins countered with a pair of touchdown runs to put the game away.
Key stat: Watkins carried 12 times for 231 yards and scored four touchdowns. Saginaw quarterback Xavier McAfee ran for 74 yards on 17 carries and threw for 132 yards.
Records: Saginaw 0-2; Fort Worth South Hills 2-0.
