The graduation of star running back Kennedy Brooks didn’t slow Mansfield’s running game in Friday’s win over rival Mansfield Summit at Newsom Stadium.

Key players: Mansfield back Avery Chatman rushed 73 yards to score a first-quarter Mansfield touchdown and had a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Jared Skaggs rushed for 74 yards to secure the second Mansfield touchdown after a blocked field goal try. Mansfield quarterback Shawn Hartsfield passed for 82 yards. Summit’s Brysen Mckinney scored from 7 yards out and had 96 passing yards. Summit two missed field goals in the fourth quarter.

Key stats: Mansfield had 236 total rushing yards on 36 attempts, and 45 penalty yards.

Record: Mansfield 1-0, Summit 0-1
