UCLA was perfect for recent Bruins commit Colleyville Heritage WR Kameron Brown
With more than 30 scholarship offers, Colleyville Heritage junior receiver Kameron Brown felt it was time to make a decision.
The four-star prospect committed to UCLA in April.
“They stood out to me the most,” Brown said. “They had all the check marks I was looking for — not just for football, but life after football.”
Brown, the son of former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Larry Brown, led the Panthers with 46 catches, 758 yards and 11 TDs last season. Once the year concluded, the flood gates opened on his recruitment.
“He handled it great,” coach Joe Willis said. “He got about a week into spring and called me up and was ready to commit. “He’s committed for the right reasons too - to go to school there and one day get into medicine and maybe become a doctor. It was an outstanding job of a young guy handling it that well.”

Larry, who won three Super Bowls and was Super Bowl XXX MVP, went to Los Angeles High School, just seven miles from UCLA before attending TCU in the early 1990s. Family also played a big part in Brown’s decision.
As for 2017, Brown and the Panthers open at Aledo on Friday. Heritage finished 10-4 and went to the Class 5A Division I state quarterfinals last season, its first trip since 2006.
“The offseason has been pretty good, working as a team and trying to prepare for the fall,” Brown said. “We lost a lot of good players last year, but that doesn’t lower our standards. We’re working hard and our goal is to be state champs, and we’ll keep working for that.”
Heritage also returns senior receiver Ke’Von Ahmad, who was all-state in 2015. Quarterbacks Jagger LaRoe (Bishop Lynch) and Drew Sanders (Lake Dallas) are two transfers competing for the job with last year’s backup Landry French.
Caleb Murphy will play some running back, but Willis expects him to play all over the field on both sides of the ball. As for defense, the Panthers will be led by senior defensive end Thomas Chapman and senior linebacker Deuce Nisbet.
