Top recruit Bobby Brown of Arlington Lamar invited to U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Arlington Lamar’s Bobby Brown plans to close his recruiting on Oct. 31 and commit on Nov. 2. He’s one of the top high school football recruits in the state.

On Wednesday, the four-star defensive end received an invite to the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. It meant a lot because of his family history.

“My grandpa was in the service, so it means something to me,” Brown told EJ Holland of 247Sports. “Playing in the game would be a tribute to him.”

Brown holds 19 offers - 18 from Power Five conferences - including Alabama, Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas, Michigan, Ole Miss and Ohio State. He still has plans to visit Alabama, Baylor, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas and A&M before making his big announcement.

The 6-foot-4 Brown was first team all-district last season. He had 40 tackles, six for loss and three sacks. According to 247Sports, Brown is ranked the No. 14 defensive end in the country and No. 17 overall prospect in Texas.

Last season’s roster included area players Robert Barnes (Southlake Carroll), Eno Benjamin (Wylie East), Earnest Brown (Denton Ryan), Baron Browning (Kennedale), Chuck Filiaga (Aledo), Omar Manning (Lancaster), Jeffrey Okudah (South Grand Prairie) and Shawn Robinson (DeSoto).
