TCU baseball’s veteran bullpen arms encourage Schlossnagle
TCU needed 17 innings from the bullpen last week at Penn State, but it included outings from Brian Trieglaff and Preston Guillory that encouraged coach Jim Schlossnagle as the Horned Frogs prepare to face Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday.
“Preston Guillory, for the first time all year, or the first time in a long time, he really looked like himself,” Schlossnagle said. “Got a ton of ground balls. The ball was really sinking. That was a big, big deal.”
Guillory appeared in two games, recording two outs in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday and pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings Sunday. He gave up two hits and walked three in 3 1/3 scoreless innings combined.
I feel good about those guys, those last three guys in the bullpen.

Trieglaff pitched 1 1/3 innings in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday and gave up two hits and struck out two. He had a rocky series the previous weekend against Texas Tech.
“Trieglaff made a mechanical adjustment last week and was really, really good,” Schlossnagle said.
Closer Durbin Feltman pitched twice and gave up no hits in 1 1/3 innings combined.
“I feel good about those guys, those last three guys in the bullpen,” Schlossnagle said.
Jared Janczak pitched 5 1/3 innings in relief of Dalton Horton on Saturday, allowing nine hits but only an earned run and striking out three.
The bullpen needed to pitch so many innings because Horton lasted only one inning in his start. He may have a tired arm, Schlossnagle said.
“He didn’t pitch horrible, but his arm was moving really slow, and that’s the time when you have a chance to get hurt,” Schlossnagle said. “So we got him out of there. We’ll see how he feels this week, whether he pitches. We might give him the week off, if we can afford to do it.”
Horton, a freshman left-hander, leads the team in victories at 7-0 in 10 starts with a 2.44 ERA. He went 4 innings in his previous start against Texas Tech.
Sophomore left-hander Drew Gooch will start tonight’s home game against SFA.
Gooch will make his first start in 22 career appearances, and he will be the eighth starter for TCU this season.
