Lack of rebounding dooms TCU women in loss at Oklahoma State
TCU's offense shot close to 50 percent for much of the night, but a lack of rebounding spelled the difference in an 85-72 loss to No. 23 Oklahoma State on Monday night in a Big 12 women's basketball game in Stillwater.
The Horned Frogs (18-11, 9-9 Big 12) finished at even in the Big 12 after their regular-season finale, their best finish since joining the league.
TCU will next take on Oklahoma or Oklahoma State at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the Big 12 tournament depending on the results of Tuesday's games. The Frogs will enter the tournament in Oklahoma City as the No. 5 seed.
TCU shot 43 percent for the game but couldn't control the glass as Oklahoma State (20-9, 11-7) owned a 48-33 rebounding advantage and attempted 23 free throws compared with TCU's 11 foul shots.
TCU shot 69 percent (11-of- 16) in the first quarter and led 25-24 . But the Frogs started the second quarter just 1-of-8 and trailed by nine points midway through the period.
Toree Thompson led the Horned Frogs with a career-high 18 points on 6-of- 12 shooting, including three 3-pointers.
Off the bench, Jordan Moore added 14 points on 5-of- 9 shooting from the floor.
