TCU women cruise past Kansas St. to end losing skid

TCU's women snapped a four-game losing streak with an 87-70 home win over Kansas State in a Big 12 basketball game Saturday at Schollmaier Arena.

The Frogs (17-9, 8-7 Big 12) constructed a 17-point lead, 47-30, by halftime against Kansas State (13-3, 5-10) and the deficit never dropped below a dozen points in the final two quarters.

Junior forward Amy Okonkwo came off the bench to lead TCU with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and a game-high 10 rebounds in 23 minutes. Jordan Moore added 16 points in addition to 12 from Amber Ramirez and 11 from Toree Thompson.

UTA women 38, Louisiana 34

Junior Laurynn McGowan nailed two free throws with two seconds to play to seal a 38-34 victory for UT Arlington's women in a Sun Belt Conference game in Lafayette, La.

UTA (16-10, 10-5) extended its winning streak to five games, and 8 of 9, in a low-scoring slugfest.

Louisiana (13-13, 8-6) scored early in the final quarter to pull ahead 30-26 but was limited to four free throws the final 9:18 of the game and missed its last nine of only 10 fourth-quarter shots.

Louisiana 100, UTA men 79

The UTA men ran into a buzz saw against the Sun Belt-leading Ragin Cajuns.

UTA (16-12, 7-7) allowed a season-high in points as Louisiana (23-4, 13-1) connected on 14 3-point shots and 20 of 21 free throws. ULL was topped by senior Frank Bartley's 25 points.

Erick Neal's 26 points led UTA in scoring for the second consecutive game. Kevin Hervey added 21 points and nine rebounds.

The Mavericks return home Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip against Georgia Southern.
