Former TCU football coach, sprinter among Hall of Fame class
Two former TCU Horned Frogs are among the 2017 Southwest Conference Hall of Fame class.
TCU sprinter Horatio Porter and All-American defensive lineman for Arkansas Dick Bumpas, who was the defensive coordinator at TCU for 11 seasons, join seven others in the 2017 class, which is sponsored by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Bumpas retired in 2015 after 40 years of coaching. He was an All-American defensive tackle for Arkansas in 1970. TCU led the nation in total defense under Bumpas from 2008-10.
Porter was a five-time All-American sprinter who ran the lead-off leg as a member of the relay team that set the NCAA record in the 4x100 meter relay (38.23) in 1989. He ran lead-off for the NCAA championship relay team in 1991. He won SWC titles in the 55-meter and 200-meter indoor events in 1992. Porter later became the city of Fort Worth’s chief financial officer before taking the same job with the North Texas Tollway Authority in 2013.
The induction ceremony will be held at a luncheon at the Brown-Lupton University Union on the TCU campus at 11 a.m. October 2.
