Moncrief Medical a stunning gift

More than ever, the Moncrief name now stands for hope and healing in Fort Worth.

The new Monty and Tex Moncrief Medical Center will open Monday, bringing more UT Southwestern Medical Center doctors to Fort Worth in a new, 110,000-square-foot clinic.

The Dallas-based medical center will bring 30 faculty doctors in 16 specialties, including allergy, dermatology, otolaryngology and urology, to practice in the three-story center on South Main Street at Pennsylvania Avenue.

The medical center will add to UT Southwestern’s work here as a partner in the Moncrief Cancer Institute, a satellite of the university’s comprehensive Dallas cancer center. The new building also will provide a new home for specialists in the school’s long-established Fort Worth ophthalmology clinic.

The university’s doctors will work with a Tarrant County tradition, Arlington-based Texas Health Resources hospitals, through a new network.

Wildcatter and philanthropist W.A. “Tex” Moncrief Jr. donated $25 million to help bring the center to Fort Worth, on the heels of the family’s $75 million gifts to support in the cancer institute.

Yes, you read that right.

One family — one very generous, caring family — has donated $100 million toward a healthier Fort Worth.
