Police: Man stomped on woman’s head outside Denton Salvation Army
A 28-year-old man is accused of kicking and stomping a woman in the parking lot of a Salvation Army in Denton last week, placing the woman in the hospital, where she remains on life support, police said.
William Matthew Stevens was arrested in the case and admitted to beating the woman, according to a police press release Tuesday.
Officers on Oct. 27 had responded about 5 a.m. to an assault call at the Salvation Army in the 1500 block of East McKinney Street in Denton.
When they arrived, a witness reported seeing a man standing over a woman who was lying in the parking lot. The man kicked and stomped the woman’s head and neck, the witness told police.
The suspect fled when he saw the witness call police.
Officer began searching the area and found Stevens, who matched the witness’ description of the suspect, the police press release said.
Stevens, who faces an aggravated assault charge, admitted to the assault in an interview with police.
He remains in Denton County Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
