Weatherford man claims $6 million Lotto jackpot
A Weatherford man is the latest Texan to claim a Lotto jackpot.
Roy Gibson on Thursday produced a winning ticket matching all six numbers from the July 6 drawing.
He selected the cash value payout, which means he receives $4.6 million of the $6 million jackpot.
Gibson asked for minimal publicity, which means lottery officials are not able to release more information about him or his claim, said Kelly Cripe, a lottery spokeswoman.
The ticket with the winning numbers — 2, 3, 17, 35, 41 and 44 — was sold at the Food Mart, 1405 S. Main St. in Weatherford, according to the Lottery Commission.
The ticket sold was a Quick Pick, which means that the computer generated the numbers.
For selling the ticket, the Food Mart can receive a $60,000 retailer bonus, lottery commission officials say.
State revenue
Last month, Texas lottery officials announced the lottery already had generated more than $1 billion in revenue for the state.
“This is by far the earliest in the fiscal year that the Texas Lottery has passed the $1 billion revenue mark,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery.
“With phenomenal scratch ticket sales and January’s record-breaking Powerball jackpot, we anticipate that we will easily break last year’s fiscal year-end record of $1.242 billion to Texas.”
Officials noted that this is the 13th year in a row that the lottery has added more than $1 billion to state coffers.
Recent winner
Last month, Lance Larkin of Grand Prairie won a $13 million Lotto Texas drawing with a ticket sold June 18 at a Kroger store in Arlington.
Larkin, who also requested minimal publicity, received $9.8 million because he chose the cash value of the ticket.
Lotto Texas drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday nights at 10:12 p.m.
