National Merit semifinalists: 108 Tarrant-area seniors make list
About 16,000 high school seniors nationwide, including 108 from the Tarrant County area, have been named semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship program and will compete for more than $33 million in scholarship awards next spring.
About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools took the 2015 preliminary SAT, or PSAT, the National Merit Scholarship qualifying test.
Scholarship winners — National Merit Scholars — will be selected from finalists after a review of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Three types of scholarships are offered through the program, including corporate- and college-sponsored awards. Winners will be announced in four segments beginning in April.
