Woman shot to death in Hurst identified
The woman who was fatally shot in Hurst Tuesday night was identified as Loan Nguyen, 35, by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office Thursday.
Nguyen was found dead inside an apartment at the Sawgrass complex in Hurst just after 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
Across the street, at the Crooked Stick Apartments, first responders found George E. Folau, 27, lying on the ground wounded. He was taken to Baylor Regional Medical Center in Grapevine but is now in police custody. Police said he faces a murder charge.
Police declined to provide further details, saying that they were still searching for other suspects.
“It wasn’t a random shooting,” Assistant Police Chief Steve Niekamp said. “These people all knew each other.”
Reached by telephone, a woman who identified herself as Folau’s mother declined to comment Wednesday.
A resident of the Sawgrass complex, who asked that his name not be used because he fears retaliation, said Wednesday he was watching television when he heard three to four loud gunshots outside. He went out onto his balcony and saw a man holding a rifle with a laser scope.
He recognized the man as a resident of the Sawgrass complex. He said he asked the man what had happened, and he responded, “Someone shot my girlfriend.”
He said the gunman took a few steps, aimed and fired a few rounds toward the Crooked Stick complex.
According to Hurst-Euless-Bedford school records, Folau graduated from Trinity High School in Euless in 2006. Folau was an all-district offensive tackle in 2005.
