Former Euless Trinity lineman faces Hurst murder charge
A lineman on the 2005 Trinity High School state championship football team is a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Hurst woman Tuesday night, police said Wednesday.
George E. Folau, 27, of Euless was in police custody at Baylor Regional Medical Center Wednesday afternoon. He faces a murder charge, police said.
About 10 p.m., first responders found Folau wounded, lying on the ground at the Crooked Stick apartment complex in the 1800 block of Sotogrande Boulevard, police said.
Across the street, in an apartment at the Sawgrass complex, police found the body of woman who apparently had been shot there, police said.
The woman’s name had not been released by Wednesday afternoon.
Police declined to provide further details, saying that they were still searching for other suspects.
“It wasn’t a random shooting,” Assistant Police Chief Steve Niekamp said. “These people all knew each other.”
Reached by telephone, a woman who identified herself as Folau’s mother declined to comment Wednesday.
A resident of the Sawgrass complex, who asked that his name not be used because he fears retaliation, said Wednesday he was watching television when he heard three to four loud gunshots outside. He went out onto his balcony and saw a man holding a rifle with a laser scope.
He recognized the man as a resident of the Sawgrass complex. He said he asked the man what had happened, and he responded, “Someone shot my girlfriend.”
He said the gunman took a few steps, aimed and fired a few rounds toward the Crooked Stick complex.
According to Hurst-Euless-Bedford school records, Folau graduated from Trinity High School in Euless in 2006. Folau was an all-district offensive tackle in 2005.
