Alysa Limón fought back tears Thursday afternoon as she sorted through pictures of her baby, Presley Lindsay.

Hours earlier, Limón, of Bedford, had held her 7-month-old infant for the last time at Cook’s Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.

Presley died there at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday.

Limón’s boyfriend, Kyle Gooch, 24, of Bedford, who had been taking care of Presley, was in custody Thursday, accused of killing the baby.

“My doctor said she was shaken violently,” Limón, 20, said in a phone interview. Gooch “told me that he had only spanked her.”

Authorities arrested Gooch on Wednesday on unrelated warrants and then kept him in custody on a complaint of injury to a child after getting information from doctors.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office had not ruled on the cause and manner of death by Thursday evening.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Presley sustained “non-accidental” brain trauma while in Gooch’s care, police said.

Limón said that she started dating Gooch in December. On Tuesday, she said, she left for work about 3:30 p.m. Presley was fine and was in Gooch’s care at her house in the 800 block of Shady Glen Lane, authorities said.

Limón arrived home about 11:30 p.m.

“I walked in and gave her kiss and left her in bed because I thought she was asleep,” Limón said. “I went to watch television when I started hearing some weird noises. I went to her and she wasn’t moving.”

In a news release, police said: “When the mother heard Presley making unusual sounds, her mother removed the blanket covering Presley, picked her up and found her limp.”

Limón said she called her mother who told her to take the baby to a hospital.

Gooch drove Limón and Presley to Texas Health Harris Methodist H-E-B in Bedford. Later, an ambulance took Presley and her mother to the children’s hospital in the Medical District of Fort Worth. Gooch drove separately to the children’s hospital.

At some point, Limón said, Gooch told her that he spanked Presley because she wouldn’t stop crying, but he told police that he spanked the baby because she had grabbed his Adam’s apple.

Gooch remained in the Bedford Jail on Thursday night with bail set at $50,000.

Thursday afternoon, Limón filled her Facebook page with videos and photos of Presley.
