Move-in brings talent, discipline to CCA football

Isaiah Diggs has proven to be a strong two-way player for the Colleyville Covenant Christian Academy football team this season, and coach Rick Jackson said the Cougars running back brings a lot to the squad.

Diggs rushed for a touchdown in last Friday’s 55-14 victory over Dallas Shelton and scored two offensive touchdowns and returned a fumble the week before in the Cougars 61-6 victory over First Baptist two weeks ago.

Jackson said that Diggs transferred to Covenant from Colleyville Heritage this season and said he has provided a nice boost for the Cougars squad.

“Isaiah brings a great work ethic combined with a world of athletic ability,” Jackson said. “I believe Isaiah has all-state ability at linebacker and tailback. Those are realistic goals given his talent.”

Diggs, 16, said he is pleased with the progress the Covenant football team has made so far this season and said he tries to contribute as much as he can.

“As a player, a great work ethic and can-do attitude is what I offer to the team on and off the field,” Diggs said. “What takes my play to the next level and drives me forward is the invaluable coaching and attention to detail taught by my running back coach, [fomer NFL standout] Correll Buckhalter, and defensive coordinator Eric Anderson, have taught me. All that I am and ever hope to be is because of the grace of God, through Jesus Christ in my life.”

Diggs said that his offseason preparation included three different components, and said that he believes it has served him well to this point.

“Diet, exercise and rest are the regime I follow in the offseason,” Diggs said. “A healthy diet provided by my dad, workouts with my teammates to build and strengthen team unity and personal strength-conditioning and speed training with Elite Fitness and Performance Experience provides the bases for a solid transition into the sports I play.”

Jackson said Diggs has been an excellent addition to the Cougars football team and is more than just a great football player.

“It goes back to his God-given ability,” Jackson said. “It also helps that Isaiah’s dad is a former Navy Seal. Isaiah is coachable, a great student here at CCA, but the best thing is, he is a fine young man in all aspects. You will see this guy playing on Saturday’s in a couple of years because he is that good.”
