Two die after falling into Trinity River near downtown Fort Worth

Two men are dead after falling into the Trinity River on Saturday morning near downtown.

MedStar spokesman Macara Trusty said that a bystander heard someone yell and called 911 just after 7 a.m. after looking downriver and seeing a man come up from the water and immediately go back down.

Fire Department divers recovered both bodies just after 8 a.m. in what was described as a Trinity spillway dam.

One victim was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office as Angel Ibarra, 23, of Fort Worth. The other was identified as Eduardo Cortina Mares, 21, also of Fort Worth.

The victims were reportedly fishing near East Belknap Street and Samuels Avenue, behind Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus, before falling into the river.
