Police are still looking for the man involved in the slaying of an 18-year-old Dallas man, killed the day after graduating from Dallas Carter High School.

Police said Ledajrick Cox died from gunshot wounds he suffered about 1:40 a.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of West Walnut Hill Lane in Irving. He was reportedly shot in the head and side.

Prior to the shooting, police said the victim was with a group of friends at a 7-Eleven at Belt Line Road and Walnut Hill Lane when an argument with an unidentified man started in the parking lot.

Cox and two others drove away in one car, but they were followed by the other car, also with three black males. The car, a newer-model white sedan, pulled up next to the car Cox was in and at least one person fired several shots before they drove away, police said.

All three men were shot and taken to Parkland Hospital, where Cox later died from his injuries, police said. One of the men stayed in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the third victim was released, police said.

Irving detectives are attempting to identify the three attackers. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 972-273-1010 and reference case number 17-11840.

Cox was on the track team and was a wide receiver on the football team at Carter High School. KDFW/Channel 4 reported Cox was the school’s homecoming king and prom king this year. He was out with friends celebrating graduation.

KDFW reported police saying a girl in their group was being cat-called by three men in a white Kia Optima, while on her way out of the store. The guys came to her defense and Cox tried to defuse the situation.

His father, Reginald Henry, told KDFW his son was always sticking up for others.

“He just wanted to do the right thing, wanted to achieve, just tried so hard,” Henry told the television station.

A vigil was scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Carter High School.
