Any election not decided — which means one candidate would claim 50 percent plus one vote — during the March 6 primary election will head to a May 22 runoff election.

What happens if no candidate in a race gets at least half of the vote in the March 6 primary election?

Then the top two vote-getters head to a runoff election scheduled for May 22.

Actually, to win an election outright in the primary, a candidate must claim 50 percent — plus one more vote.

Otherwise, plan on heading back to the polls in May.

Early voting for that election runs from May 14-18.

And polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tues., May 22 for any runoff elections needed.
