Football picks: Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs over the Chargers
One week into a season-long experiment and it’s all working, because no money has been lost.
As a refresher, I am conducting an experiment: How would a veteran sports scribe do if he actually bet on football games?
For the record, I don’t bet on games; this is not some ethical higher ground.
Because said experiment requires no money out of my wallet, and because said experiment requires no money from my company, it works.
A friend, who is quite the gambler, insists the only way to avoid losing any real money, which is now my only goal in life, is to pick only a few games.
I start the season with a fake $50, and will place an imaginary $10 on five games, college or pro.
Last week’s results: 2-2-1
Year to date total winnings: $0.00
THIS WEEK’S PICKS
$10 Tulsa at Oklahoma State. O/U 66.5: OVER.
The Cowboys are ranked 11th in the nation, and no one loves meaningless preseason points more than the spokesperson for the OAN, Coach Mike Gundy.
$10 Houston at Baylor (-4). Houston. CANCELED
How can anyone trust any team in the the Big 12 not named Oklahoma?
$10 SMU (-14.5) at North Texas. SMU
Taking the quarterback, Shane Buechele, to have a day.
$10 South Florida at Notre Dame (-26). Bulls.
I typically don’t like Notre Dame to cover. Because it never does.
$10 Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5) at L.A. Chargers. Chiefs.
The Chargers have a Tyrod Taylor problem.
$10 New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks (-3.5). Seahawks.
That’s a long flight for New England.
