Jerry Jones says status of Gregory, McClain remains in limbo
Suspended defensive end Randy Gregory has a locker at the Dallas Cowboys new Ford Center at The Star home in Frisco.
Suspended linebacker Rolando McClain does not.
Owner Jerry Jones said nothing should be read into the locker situation because both players remain in limbo as far their status’ with the team and the league are concerned.
“There is still a lot of ambiguity involved in both their situations for this year,” Jones said on his radio show on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday morning. “There is a legal aspect to this thing that we don’t have our hands around. I don’t want to dismiss that either could be on the field this year. They haven’t been involved (in camp). That speaks for itself. But it’s a long season. We will see how this thing plays out.”
Coach Jason Garrett declined to elaborate when asked about the locker discrepancy with McClain and Gregory on Tuesday.
“We’re just going to talk about the guys and focus on the guys who are here,” Garrett said.
Both players have been suspended for the first 10 games of the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Gregory did not report to training camp because he entered a drug treatment facility. Sources have maintained that he will likely miss the entire 2016 season.
McClain was a no-show for training camp and was subjected to fines of $40,000 per day. Because he didn’t report for the first preseason game, he will be fined a game check of roughly $73,529 based on his $1.25 million salary for this season. He was already going to miss the first 10 games. Adding in the additional game fine plus the training camp fines, McClain stands to play for free this season if and when he ever shows up.
