“It’s just amazing to be around a guy who’s won at a high level everywhere he’s been, who’s been around for a little minute on some great defenses. I’m just getting to learn from him and his philosophy on his own,” defensive tackle Quinnen Williams said.
Williams, who has been with the Cowboys since November after he was traded from the Jets, is in his first offseason with the team.
The Cowboys hired Parker in January after a two-season stint with the Philadelphia Eagles as their passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach, including a victory in Super Bowl 59.
“It’s been a blessing for real,” Revel said. “There’s been a lot of things that we do this year that we didn’t do last year. Cleaning up a lot of your techniques, a lot of things that you made mistakes on the day before. He’s very detailed or technical with his movement and what he wants us to do. Each day it’s nothing different, your approach is to get better each day.”
Parker talked about how he is trying to connect with his players and be present off the field as well as on.
“The easiest way is they come to the office a lot,” he said. “They come a lot when they have that downtime just to stop by, get to spend 15, 20 minutes. We’ve done different events outside of here, too. You’re just trying to get to know the man before you coach the player, and that’s a constant process, like through phone calls, FaceTimes.”
Parker cited an example when he attended Game 7 of the NBA’s Western Conference finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder with rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs also in attendance.
“Me and Caleb weren’t sitting together, but we were at Game 7 of Thunder and Spurs,” he said. “So we’re texting from other sides of the arena. It’s different things like that. It’s a constant process. It’s not just going to be a grand event that just kind of checks the box. You want to constantly make deposits when it comes to relationships.”
The Cowboys enter their final day of minicamp Thursday before their long break right before training camp in Oxnard, California.
