Exclusive: Cowboys’ Quinnen Williams talks addition of new defensive coordinator
While the Dallas Cowboys are coming off one of their worst defensive seasons in team history, there are still pieces that have proven long-term value on that side of the ball even amid a disastrous season.
Atop them all, arguably, is defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. After trading a first- and second-round pick to the New York Jets ahead of the trade deadline to acquire him in November, the focus will be making his strengths stronger for a defense in need of improvement.
“Just develop, man,” Williams said about his offseason focus. “Just get better, develop, do the things I can do to help this defense, especially the new coaching staff. Now that we’re all together, it’s one of our first offseasons together, so it’s going to be dope to be able to grow and develop with everyone and get this thing changed around. We have a phenomenal offense, a lot of those guys are coming back, and a phenomenal defense player-wise. Put everything together, [we’ll] get everything going in the right direction.”
Williams is confident in the players on the defense, and now he feels confidence in the man leading that unit in new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
“Just the winning culture that he’s been a part of, the winning standards that he’s been a part of, and the group of guys he’s been a part of,” he said about what’s exciting with the hire. “He’s been a part of a lot of great group of defensive linemen, especially being at Denver, being at the Eagles with Jalen Carter and those guys and seeing those guys develop. The way Jordan Davis played this year, the way those guys played this year. Knowing that he comes from a winning culture, a winning standard under [Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio] and his staff, it’ll kind of be great to see and great to be a part of.”
Williams hasn’t gotten the chance to meet with Parker yet, but he’s excited to build the new defensive look over the offseason — his first full one in Dallas.
“Just trying to get the whole offseason together, he’s getting everything together and all the stuff like that,” Williams said. “It’s going to be a cool change, though ... It’ll be an amazing opportunity, amazing chance to get a chance to learn and grow and develop and get this defense going in the right direction.”
Williams is participating in his fourth Pro Bowl in as many years, as he has separated himself as one of the game’s top defensive tackles. In seven games with the Cowboys in 2025, he notched 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one interception.
