The Dallas Cowboys were busy on the final day of the NFL trade deadline, with their biggest move being acquiring defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for defensive tackle Mazi Smith, a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 first round pick.
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo decried the trade for the Cowboys on ESPN’s “First Take.”
"They unloaded a lot of money for someone who hasn't won any games for the Jets. ... This is not a great move."@MadDogUnleashed weighs in on the Cowboys acquiring Quinnen Williams from the Jets 👀 pic.twitter.com/7ZFiE959eP
“Who cares?” Russo said. “By the time they get good, he’ll be done anyway. Plus, he anchored the Jets’ defense for the last whatever it might be, they never won anything, so It’s not like all of sudden you took Mean Joe Greene and sticking him with the freaking Dallas Cowboys.
“... The Jets, I never thought I’d say this, they fleeced the Cowboys. They got a No. 1 pick, and they got a second-round pick, and they unloaded a lot of money for a guy who hasn't won any games for the Jets.”
Williams, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, has been one of the league’s top defensive tackles, especially in the past three seasons, with the Alabama native making three straight Pro Bowls and the All-Pro first team in 2022.
The Cowboys also traded for Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson, hoping to strengthen a defense that has struggled this year.
The Cowboys have a bye this week before playing at the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 17 on “Monday Night Football.”
