Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones takes a shot at Micah Parsons during interview

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones lambasted Micah Parsons, the star edge rusher whom Jones traded before the season, during an appearance on “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on Monday.

Jones referenced a notorious incident in the preseason when Parsons, who was engaged in an acrimonious negotiation for a contract extension, lay on a training table on the sideline in street clothes during the Cowboys’ game against the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 23.

Jones compared Parsons’ actions to those of former Cowboys greats Michael Irvin and DeMarcus Ware, who were also appearing on Monday’s show.

“Not one time, not even in the hottest of days and two-a-days in August in Texas, between 11 in the morning or when they quit practicing or four in the afternoon, did I never see any one of these two [Irvin and Ware] go over and lay on a damn training table in front of a million people,” Jones said. “Never. It’s not in their makeup. ... It’s just not in their makeup.”

Jones was also critical of Parsons’ leadership

“This is not fair, Micah is not here. I really think a lot of Micah Parsons,” he said. “And there wasn’t a question of wanting him on the team. But to anoint him in terms of [being captain of the defense], and everybody else looking at him, you better [do] some thinking.”

This continues a back-and-forth after Parsons’ latest comments decrying the franchise for its treatment of cornerback Trevon Diggs, saying the Cowboys pushed him back on the field earlier than was fair to him.

Parsons has 6.5 sacks this season with the Green Bay Packers and earned NFC Defensive Player of the Month in October.

The Cowboys’ defense has struggled without Parsons, and the team is exploring trades for edge rushers.
