Report: Cowboys show interest in Maxx Crosby, as Jerry Jones teases trade talks

The NFL trade deadline is quickly approaching on Nov. 4, and the Dallas Cowboys appear to be set to make a move for an impact defensive player.

Who that player ends up being, if a deal is made, remains the question, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones appears prepared to make a deal if one presents itself.

“If there were a trade it will be because it fits us,” Jones said. “And to fit, there’s got to be a reason why the player would leave that we’re interested in going forward with, and it would have to fit us in terms of our plans on our roster, the financials and everything that goes with that.”

According to a post from former ESPN host Trey Wingo, the Cowboys have inquired about Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, a Colleyville native, for a potential trade.

A four-time Pro Bowler, Crosby has spent all of his seven NFL seasons with the Raiders after being drafted by the franchise in fourth round of the 2019 draft. He has accumulated 63.5 sacks, 115 tackles for loss and 28 pass deflections since entering the league and is considered one of the top defensive ends in the NFL.

Despite the Raiders just recently giving Crosby a three-year, $106.5 million extension in March, Las Vegas would only absorb $23.1 million of dead cap over the next two years if he were to be dealt.

“I think Jerry and Stephen [Jones] and [vice president of player personnel] Will [McClay], I mean they’re always open for business,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “You know, this time of year you kind of let those guys focus on it because we’re so busy game planning and all that stuff.”

Jones has mentioned the possibility of re-distributing some of the draft capital acquired in the Micah Parsons trade in order to add defensive help ahead of the deadline.

“What’s realistic is that if we do see an opportunity,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “We are in as good a shape as we’ve been in years with [draft] picks, with financial with our cap. We’re in as good of shape as we’ve ever been, if we see a way to improve our team with a player that makes sense today, this year, next year, to entertain it and look at it.”

Crosby graduated from Colleyville-Heritage High School in 2015 and took his only FBS offer at Eastern Michigan. In three seasons, he accumulated 41 tackles for loss and 20 sacks before entering the 2019 draft as an early entrant.
