Dallas Cowboys’ Jadeveon Clowney arrested in his South Carolina hometown
Dallas Cowboys defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was arrested last Friday, Sept. 12, for misdemeanor trespassing and failure to identify after parking in a closed lot and not moving after being asked to by an official, according to police records.
The incident happened in his hometown of Rock Hill, S.C. just days after visiting with the Dallas Cowboys and days before signing with the team on Monday. The news was first reported by WSOC in Rock Hill and has been confirmed by the Star-Telegram.
The arrest is not expected to affect his future status with the Cowboys including in the team’s week three matchup against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon. Despite just arriving with the team, the expectation is that he will get snaps in the team’s contest in the Windy City.
“We will keep watching today,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “He had a good practice yesterday. We’ll see how today goes and finalize some things this afternoon. Anything is a possibility, for sure.”
Team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Friday morning that he expects Clowney to play but that he didn’t know how many snaps he would take.
Last season, Clowney played for the Carolina Panthers, finishing the year with 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss. He will join a Cowboys defense looking for a lift after allowing 37 points to Russell Wilson and the New York Giants last Sunday.
Clowney has 58 sacks in his 11-year career. His one-year contract with the Cowboys serves as his seventh NFL team in eight seasons. A former No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clowney is expected to add valuable rotational value to the Dallas pass rush moving deeper into the season.
