Dallas Cowboys quickly sign Pro Bowler to help pass rush after win over Giants
The Dallas Cowboys signed Jadeveon Clowney to a contract, and the three-time Pro Bowler will help bolster a defense that is looking for another star pass rusher after trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
Team owner Jerry Jones announced the signing after Cowboys’ 40-37 overtime victory over the New York Giants in their home opener Sunday. It is a multiyear deal, Jones said. Terms were not disclosed.
The Cowboys will be the seventh team Clowney has played for in his NFL career after being drafted No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL draft by the Houston Texans.
Last season, he played for the Carolina Panthers, finishing the year with 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss, and he will join a Cowboys defense looking for a lift after allowing 37 points to Russell Wilson and the New York Giants.
Clowney has 58 sacks in his 11-year career.
His first game for the Cowboys will be against the Chicago Bears at 3:25 p.m. Sept. 21 at Solider Field in Chicago.
