President Trump’s updated sports council includes former Dallas Cowboys star
President Donald Trump announced Thursday, July 31, the restoration of both the Presidential Fitness Test and the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition in an effort to “end the childhood chronic disease epidemic and foster the next generation of healthy, active citizens,” according to a news release from the White House.
The council, which is tasked with “creating school-based programs to reward excellence in physical education and support the development of a Presidential Fitness Award” and “restoring tradition to college athletics, including reforming the broken transfer portal and keeping men out of women’s sports,” includes many former and current pro athletes.
But how many of those athletes have North Texas ties?

The Metroplex athletes who signed up for the council are former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo; US Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau; and Trump’s NIL point person, former Texas Tech football player Cody Campbell.
Trump also added sports legends like Lawrence Taylor, Wayne Gretzky and Jack Nicklaus to the council.
Another name on the list was Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who said Monday he declined Trump’s offer to participate in the council.
The Presidential Fitness Test was introduced by Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966, until it was replaced by then-President Barack Obama’s FitnessGram.
