Micah Parsons shares post critical of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones
Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons is in line to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history when he signs his next extension with the team.
However, with the regular season quickly approaching, Parsons remains without a contract, and while he’s at training camp it’s unknown if he’ll participate in the on-field practices.
Team owner Jerry Jones held a press conference to kick off training camp in Oxnard, Calif., on Monday and commented on the contract negotiations, pointing out the injuries that Parsons has had in his career and saying signing a player doesn’t guarantee he plays.
“Just because we sign him, doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year, seriously,” said Jones, “I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year, Dak Prescott, so there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”
The comment drew the ire of former NFL All-Pro JJ Watt, who fired off a tweet, on X criticizing the owner; Parsons cosigned it with a repost.
As Parsons and the Cowboys continue to wait on terms, the All-Pro’s price is likely to increase as other star defenders, such as Pittsburgh Steelers’ TJ Watt, sign their massive new deals.
