Watch: Jimmy Johnson announces decision to retire from FOX NFL Sunday

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson announced his retirement from FOX NFL on Sunday’s “The Herd,” with Collin Cowherd.

“Probably the most fun I’ve ever had in my career and that’s counting Super Bowls and national championships was at FOX Sports. I had an absolute ball with my friends on the set, the best friends I’ve ever had,” said Johnson, “I’ve made an extremely difficult decision, I’ve been thinking about it for the last four or five years and I’ve decided to retire from FOX. I’m gonna miss it, I’m gonna miss all the guys...It has been a great run starting back 31 years ago.”

FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks praised Johnson for his time and impact on the show.

“Jimmy Johnson was there when FOX NFL SUNDAY came on-air for the first time 31 years ago, and since has been a cherished member of our FOX Sports family,” said Shanks, “Jimmy served as an inspiration to generations of football fans with his legendary swagger, one-of-a-kind insight and signature humor.”

Johnson was an inaugural member of FOX NFL Sunday, which premiered in 1994, alongside Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and James Brown. The program made history as the first hour-long NFL pregame show on broadcast television.
