Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty has a ‘special’ homecoming with the Dallas Cowboys in mind
Fresh off his Heisman runner-up season for Boise State, running back Ashton Jeanty has been busy since the offseason kicked off. Whether it’s handling multiple media requests, training in Atlanta ahead of the upcoming NFL draft or being in New Orleans this week for Super Bowl LIX Media Row, Jeanty has remained in the spotlight.
A consensus projected first-round pick, Jeanty is expected to go early in April’s NFL Draft with the Cowboys’ No. 12 draft position a popular landing spot for the draft’s top running back. With Dallas needing help at the position, it could be a homecoming for Jeanty who played his high school football at Frisco Lone Star just minutes from the Cowboys headquarters.
“It would be special,” Jeanty said. “Obviously, growing up in Frisco and spending a lot of time out there. I think it’d be cool having a star on my helmet again. Playing for Lone Star, I had a star on my helmet as well. It would be a dope moment to have that happen.”
Jeanty said he still has homework to do on the Cowboys hiring Brian Schottenheimer to form an opinion on what he could bring as head coach, but he already knows how thrilled he’d be to play alongside some of the talent in Dallas.
“I think he’ll do a good job,” Jeanty said of Schottenheimer. “Not too much familiar with him, but I’ll keep doing my research and see how he talks to the media...Obviously, a lot of great people there and a lot of talented players. To be a part of that would be a great opportunity.”
Not only representing the Cowboys, but representing a city that shaped who he is as a football player is something that Jeanty would love to see play out. While many outcomes have Jeanty playing his NFL ball elsewhere, Dallas is one outcome he keeps close to his heart.
“I think the culture, the history, the city, everything that comes with playing for the Dallas Cowboys would be special,” he said.
