Dallas Cowboys

What Heisman contender said the Dallas Cowboys would be his preferred destination in the draft?

With the Cowboys’ season starting at 3-6, most fans are already directing attention to the 2025 NFL Draft where Dallas is expected to have a prime selection after a disappointing 2024 campaign.

A player that the Cowboys have been linked to early on is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. A native of Jacksonville, Fla. who played his high school career at Frisco Lone Star, Jeanty has emerged as a contender for the Heisman Trophy this season while leading the FBS with 1,734 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in just nine games for the Broncos.

When asked on the “Kickin’ It With Dee” podcast about where his preferred NFL destination would be, Jeanty didn’t shy away from the possibility of returning to Frisco.

“If I could script it, I mean, my family is all in Texas,” Jeanty said. “I used to play in the Cowboys’ practice stadium. So family being there, all the connections, all the relationships, I feel like that would just be the perfect city to play in.”

While a preps star for the Lone Star Rangers, Jeanty accounted for 2,643 total yards and 41 total touchdowns as a senior while playing the majority of his home games at The Star in Frisco where the Cowboys practice during the week.

Jeanty is expected to go in the first round of April’s draft. The last time the Cowboys selected a running back in the first round was when they picked Ezekiel Elliott No. 4 overall out of Ohio State in 2016. The value of selecting a running back in the first round has decreased across the league in recent years, as only 13 running backs have been selected in the opening round since 2013.

According to ESPN BET, Jeanty has the third-shortest odds to win the Heisman Trophy at +400, trailing only Colorado WR/DB Travis Hunter (+125) and Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (+275). His Boise State team is currently projected to make the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff as the 12-seed. The Broncos’ lone loss on the season came on the road against No. 1 Oregon, 37-34.
