Ex-NFL executive explains why he says Jerry Jones and Deion Sanders couldn’t work together
ESPN commentator Louis Riddick appeared on ‘Get Up,’ and explained why he thought Deion Sanders would be a bad fit for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job.
Riddick said that while the move made sense business-wise, on a professional level, he believes Sanders and team owner Jerry Jones wouldn’t work well together.
“There’s the business and then there’s the profession. Look from a business standpoint, this has a lot of people excited, including you Greeny, and I get it and I understand why these are two of the biggest personalities in American sports,” said Riddick, “This is just not a match to me that seems like it makes a whole lot of sense from a professional standpoint. Deion is the ultimate alpha...he has his hands on every single part of the Colorado football team and of the Colorado football organization. He won’t have the same kind of influence in Dallas. We all know this.”
Riddick said that he didn’t want to speak for Sanders but that from his experience the limitations put on Cowboys head coaches by Jones.
“We understand what head coaches are up against when they’re going and working for Jerry Jones and working with the Dallas Cowboys, It’s a unique situation,” said Riddick, “I’ll speak from experience [with Sanders] it doesn’t seem like a good match to me.”
According to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz’s reports, Sanders has already spoken to Jones about the job.
Sanders is also the betting favorite for the position but, he would have to be bought out of his current contract with Colorado, costing $8 million, before he could become the Cowboys head coach.
