Dallas Cowboys announce historic first cryptocurrency sponsorship with Blockchain.com
The Dallas Cowboys announced an expansive sponsorship deal with the London-based crypto company Blockchain.com, making it their exclusive digital asset partner.
The deal is the first cryptocurrency partnership with an NFL team and comes just a few weeks after the NFL dropped barriers to the emerging category.
It is the first pro sports deal for Blockchain.com, a platform to buy, sell and trade cryptocurrency, and the agreement with the Cowboys will include branding, advertising, content and event opportunities, specifically at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Blockchain.com will get club space, rights to social/digital content, highly visible signage within the stadium bowl and extensive advertising.
The deal was unveiled Wednesday by Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones and Blockchain.com CEO Peter Smith at The Star in Frisco.
Jones said, “If you’ll ride with great ideas, if you’ll ride bright and innovative people and you do it with passion, you have a chance to do something special.”
“Blockchain.com is one of the oldest and most trusted digital asset platforms in the world,” Jones said. “They are bringing Wall Street to Main Street by making digital assets available to anyone, anywhere in the world. We take pride in being the first team in the NFL to sign an official cryptocurrency partnership.”
As of now, the Cowboys won’t be able to sell tickets via Blockchain.com and they can’t pay players in cryptocurrency. But Jones is optimistic that it will evolve.
Smith said they will work with the NFL over the next 10 years to get that changed.
The National Football League issued a memo last month granting teams limited permission to seek blockchain sponsorships. Restrictions remain in place for specific cryptocurrencies and fan tokens, which can be exchanged for merchandise and experiences.
The Cowboys and Blockchain.com also will create ways for fans to quickly access Dallas Cowboys content and their Blockchain.com wallet, ranging from away game VIP trips to player-hosted events.
Blockchain.com will run a special promotion via blockchain.com/first to kick off the partnership with Cowboys fam. Fans who sign up with their email on the landing page and purchase at least $100 of crypto within the next week will get a $50 crypto bonus.
Blockchain.com says it has 80 million customers in more than 200 countries.
