Dallas Cowboys bring in Texas A&M draft prospect as they look to upgrade offensive line

With Connor Williams gone, the Dallas Cowboys have a huge need at guard and the team is taking a look at the top interior offensive line prospects heading into the 2022 NFL Draft.

One day after hosting Boston College guard Zion Johnson on a pre-draft visit, the Cowboys rolled out the red carpet for Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green as they continued their visits with national prospects.

Green is one of four Texas A&M prospects slated to visit the Cowboys this week, including defensive tackle DeMarcus Leal, defensive end Michael Clemons and tight end Jalen Wydermyer.

But the focus is clear about what the Cowboys are looking for with the 24th pick in the first round.

In addition to wide receiver, the Cowboys are looking hard at the offensive line. They also brought in first-round prospects in Mississippi tackle Charles Cross and Central Michigan tackle Bernhard Raimann. Cross and Raimann should be long gone by the 24th pick.

But with Williams’ departure to Miami, the need at guard is greater.

Connor McGovern is the only guard with experience on the roster.

And while the team is banking on McGovern improving in the offseason, he could not beat out Williams for the job last year despite Williams’ penchant for penalties.

McGovern is in the final year of his contract and the team has made no move to sign him to an extension.

The Cowboys had hoped to bring in some competition for McGovern in free agency and they may do so after the draft.

But they are also open to a walk-in starter at the position in the draft.

Johnson is rated as the best interior offensive lineman in the draft, but might not be available when the Cowboys pick at 24.

Green, who is projected as a late first-round, is an intriguing prospect because he is billed as a guard but has the versatility to play tackle.

Teams have also asked him to take a look at center.

And Green is a hot commodity with pre-draft visits. He is also scheduled to meet with the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears and the Patriots, according to reports.

The Cowboys also hosted Virginia tight end Jelani Woods on Thursday.

With Dalton Schultz playing on a one-year franchise tender and Blake Jarwin released due to a career-threatening injury, the need for help at tight end is paramount.

The Cowboys re-signed Jeremy Sprinkle to a one-year deal to cover themselves.

But they will be targeting a tight end in the final four rounds of the draft, if not in the third.
