Arlington’s Mickey Guyton performing anthem that inspired her career at Super Bowl
Arlington-born Mickey Guyton will sing the song that inspired her career in front of the largest audience in the world.
Guyton, who graduated from Mansfield High School, will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl LVI.
She made the announcement on social media.
“I am shook, I am grateful, I am praise dancing,” Guyton posted on Twitter. “So excited to be singing the national anthem at #SBLVI on February 13th!”
The Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals kick off at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Guyton, 38, became the first Black female solo artist to earn a Grammy nomination in a country category for her 2020 song “Black Like Me.”
She started singing in her Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington and said she was inspired to pursue singing after seeing LeAnn Rimes perform the national anthem before a Texas Rangers game.
She released her self-titled debut EP in 2015 and was nominated for the Academy of Country Music Awards’ New Female Vocalist in 2016.
