‘Let’s not do that.’ Stephen Jones on Dak Prescott’s late rushing TD in Cowboys rout
If you were turning your head in angst when Dak Prescott took a keeper four yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter Sunday, you weren’t the only one.
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones wasn’t exactly thrilled watching the quarterback who led the team to a 43-3 rout over the Atlanta Falcons bowing up and running over linebacker Mykal Walker in the process.
Just like the play was drawn up?
“It was actually the opposite,” Jones said Monday during his weekly radio show on KRLD/105.3 “The Fan.” “Let’s don’t do that. But certainly, I mean, that’s Dak. At the end of the day, we have to protect Dak from Dak, but he’s the ultimate competitor.”
Jones referenced the swollen bruise under Prescott’s right eye but that didn’t happen on the touchdown run. Teammate CeeDee Lamb accidentally gave Prescott the shiner with a playful headbutt to celebrate Lamb’s second touchdown catch earlier in the game. Lamb forgot that Prescott wasn’t wearing his helmet. Prescott said he’s fine and joked that it was the hardest he was hit on Sunday.
“That’s just the way he’s going to play the game. He’s going to play to win. He’s going to play to score,” Jones said. “That’s what makes Dak Dak. He’s a fierce competitor. He’s a great leader. He sets the tone for this team.
“Obviously, you could feel it in him all week long that he had something to prove. He went out and just did an amazing job with this football team. We’re so fortunate to have him, but I will say I hope we don’t see that much the rest of the year.”
