‘We needed it.’ Trevon Diggs says Dallas Cowboys will learn from blowout loss to Broncos
For the first seven games this season, Trevon Diggs has been a Dallas Cowboys’ defensive hero.
But in Sunday’s embarrassing 30-16 blowout loss to the Denver Broncos at AT&T Stadium, he was the goat. Or at least one of them.
Diggs was burned for a 44-yard touchdown by receiver Tim Patrick from quarterback Teddy Bridgewater that gave Denver a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter. It just got worse from there for Diggs and the Cowboys, who saw their six-game win streak snapped with a 30-16 loss. The Cowboys’ two scores came in the final five minutes.
“I didn’t play good at all,” said Diggs, who leads the NFL with seven interceptions (all in the first six games). “Double-move, [he] caught it. Good [pass], good catch.”
Diggs was also called for pass interference on a pass in the end zone that set up the Broncos‘ first touchdown and was flagged for holding on a play that wiped away Jourdan Lewis’ interception at the end of the first half.
“We didn’t come out with the same intensity as we came out with last week or any of the games, actually,” Diggs said. “It’s probably one of our worst games. [The lack of intensity] came back to haunt us.”
Diggs dismissed the suggestion that the noon start was to blame for the lackluster performance.
“You could use that as an excuse but at the end of the day we’re playing a football game,” he said. “You’ve got to be ready regardless of what time we’re playing. Today we just weren’t ready.”
The humiliating loss, however, may have been exactly what the team needed, Diggs said.
“We needed it. We know how this feels now. I don’t like losing,” he said. “So we have to come out next week and play harder. We know what we have to do, we’re going to stick together, and we’re going to get it done, regardless of what we’ve got to do, for sure.”
