Dak Prescott injury update: Dallas Cowboys report good news with bye week ahead

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott should be available in two weeks when the team plays its next game.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that the MRI exam Prescott had showed no tear in his right calf.

“He has a calf strain,” McCarthy said. “The word is optimistic, but with any calf strain, there is a variance in [recovery] time. The bye week is right on time.”

McCarthy said Prescott will rest and rehabilitate his calf over the next two weeks.

Prescott strained his right calf on the last play of Sunday’s 35-29 overtime win over the Patriots in New England.

The Cowboys (5-1) have a bye this week. They next play the Vikings in Minnesota on Oct. 31. McCarthy said he’s optimistic Prescott will be available then.

“Anytime you’re sending your quarterback in for an MRI, there’s a little nervousness,” Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said on KRLD/105.3 FM “The Fan” earlier Monday. “But also know what a competitor and how tough Dak is, and optimistic that we’re going to get good results there.”

Prescott had one of his best games in the NFL in the win, despite an interception and fumble at the goal line.

He finished with 445 yards and three touchdowns on 36-of-51 passing. It’s his sixth-most yards, sixth-most pass attempts, and fifth-most completions. He wore a protective boot on his right foot after the game.

“Life keeps throwing punches and I’ll keep throwing them back,” Prescott said after the game. “It doesn’t hurt as bad when you score and win the game.”

Prescott has thrown for a Cowboys record 16 touchdowns through the first six games.
