The Dallas Cowboys fired Jason Garrett, and football fans can’t stop joking about it

The Dallas Cowboys finally made Jason Garrett’s firing official with a statement released via email at 5:47 p.m. Sunday.

Jerry Jones says in the statement that the team has declined to renew Garrett’s contract, which ends Jan. 14.

This wasn’t a secret, but technically anything was possible until Jones officially confirmed it publicly. In fact, Jones has already interviewed a couple replacements.

The reaction to the news, the Cowboys delay in sharing said news and Garrett’s almost decade-long tenure as head coach instigated more comedy on social media.
