Expert reactions to Dallas Cowboys first 2019 draft pick cautiously positive
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t make their first pick in the 2019 NFL draft until after 8 p.m. late into the second round Friday night.
Reaction from the draft “experts” was mostly positive after the Cowboys selected Central Florida defensive tackle Trysten Hill with the 58th overall pick.
“He showed flashes of brilliance at UCF,” ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said. “This kid is a talent. Now was he consistent? Was he a guy who really was maximizing his talent week in and week out? No he did not but the talent was evident.”
Hill only started once in 2018 because of a clash with UCF defensive coordinator Randy Shannon, according to Ed Werder. Shannon was TCU’s linebacker coach in 2012 and a 1989 draft pick of the Cowboys.
Former NFL scout and current ESPN analyst Jim Nagy said multiple teams had Hill graded higher than Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who was the No. 13 overall pick.
“This kid is a really good football player,” Nagy said.
