Dallas Cowboys punter Chris Jones had things outside of football on his mind during Sunday’s game.
He and his wife, Sara, were ready to welcome their first baby and Jones bolted to the hospital after the game. Almost 22 hours later, the Joneses welcomed a baby girl, Magnolia Ryan, at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
“It’s still so fresh,” Jones said on Tuesday. “But it was cool. The whole experience, cutting the cord, it was awesome.”
Jones, like every NFL player, had to compartmentalize his personal life from professional life throughout the game. He managed to do that well, averaging 46 yards on four punts, including a long of 61.

“It was tough just because you want to almost have everything speed up and happen so fast so you can get to what’s next,” Jones said. “It’s hard to be that way, but you’ve got to lock back in and take it as you would everything else. … Once the game was done, it was on to this. It’s been a really cool experience.”
