Johnny Manziel could finally be returning to football

Johnny Football could be coming back.

Johnny Manziel broke his social media silence with several posts over the weekend intimating that he’s returning to the game.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League confirmed they are trying to negotiate a contract with the 2012 Heisman trophy winner from Texas A&M.

On Sunday, Manziel posted a black and white image of himself throwing the football on Instagram with the caption, “Just wait on it #ComebackSZN.” The hashtag stands for comeback season. He also included a Canadian flag.

Manziel responded to ESPN reporter’s tweet speculating on what the cryptic message meant with another equally confounding message.

Reporter Kevin Seifert pointed out the Canadian flag and the Sunday deadline to offer Manziel a deal in a Twitter post.

Manziel replied with “Or maybe I’m just trolling.”

Hamilton has owned the right to sign Manziel for several years. They worked him out in August but declined to sign him while maintaining the rights to do so.

“Johnny Manziel and his agent recently notified the Tiger-Cats that they had activated the 10-day window during which the Tiger-Cats must offer him a contract or lose his negotiation list rights,” the Tiger-Cats said in a release. “That window closed today and we can confirm that we made an offer to Manziel, and that his rights will remain on our negotiation list while discussions with he and his agent continue.”

Manziel was a first-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. He was released by the Browns in March 2016 after playing in 15 games, including eight starts.

The CFL regular season begins on June 14.
