The Dallas Mavericks did not make any moves before the NBA trading deadline Thursday.

The 2 p.m. trading deadline came and went without any participation from the Mavericks, although they did receive some phone calls.

"Obviously, we’re always in the market for upgrading talent and what not. But there’s a time and place for everything,” said Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks’ general manager and president of basketball operations.

Nelson said he fielded calls from NBA personnel interested in acquiring the team’s young players for “significant draft picks.’’ But the Mavericks weren’t interested in going down a dark road which included Dallas possibly parting ways with center/power forward Dwight Powell, who is enjoying a breakout season.

“We like this group and we want to give them a chance to grow together,’’ Nelson said. “We don’t think change is the way to go.’’

The Mavericks (29-26) start the post-All-Star game version of their season on Friday night at 6 in Orlando (23-29).
