Mark Cuban explains why he doesn’t regret selling Dallas Mavericks

Mark Cuban said he did what was best for his family in selling the Dallas Mavericks and explained why the reaction to the infamous Luka Doncic trade was somewhat familiar in a recent appearance on the DLLS Mavericks Podcast.

Cuban compared the reaction of Mavs fans despondent over Doncic’s trade to other trades completed by the Mavs in the past.

“I heard that after Steve Nash. I heard that when we brought in Wang Zhizhi from China. I’ve heard that when players have done things that are controversial,” Cuban said. “Fan is short for fanatic, right, and that passion is a good thing, and those [disappointments] dissipate with time. We all were hurt when Luka got traded.”

Cuban also said he didn’t regret selling the team to Miriam Adelson and her family.

“I’m sorry, I had to do what is best for my life and my family,” Cuban said. “You think I was gonna live to 137 and just run the Mavs forever?”

Cuban said he sees good times ahead for Mavs fans.

“I feel like I let people down by not being there, but what’s done is done, and we got Cooper [Flagg],” he said. “The basketball gods were looking down on us, and Coop’s the real deal. ... I’m guessing if we do well and win, those sentiments will change.”

Flagg will get his first chance to help fans move on from the Doncic era when the Mavs open the season against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at American Airlines Center.
