Dallas Mavericks announce Cooper Flagg signing. When will he take the floor?

The Dallas Mavericks announced they had come to terms with top draft pick Cooper Flagg on Wednesday, July 2.

While details on Flagg’s contract are unavailable, the rookie wage scale, per Spotrac, the maximum deal the Duke product could sign was a four-year $62 million contract.

Flagg was the only rookie in the Mavs’ 2025 draft class and will join a veteran-laden team looking to contend for an NBA title next season.

At Flagg’s introductory press conference, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd said he wants to give Flagg point guard responsibilities early, saying he was looking forward to watching the rookie against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I want to put him in at the point guard. I want to make him uncomfortable and see how he reacts being able to run the show, being able to play the two, play the three, he’s comfortable playing that, but we want to push, and I think he’s going to respond in a positive way. It’s all right to fail,” Kidd said. “It’s all right to turn the ball over. We’ve talked about that, you know, just understanding the guys that I’ve been around that have been young. Giannis giving him the ball, and he failed, but he wanted to come back and have the ball. So I’m excited about getting him the ball against the Lakers and see what happens. Let’s get it started right off the bat.”

Mavs fans will get their first chance to see Flagg in the Mavs’ NBA Summer League debut against the Los Angeles Lakers at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
