Kyrie Irving declines option, signs three-year extension with Dallas Mavericks

Kyrie Irving is the second Dallas Maverick in recent days to sign a new contract, with the point guard declining his $43 million player option to sign a three-year $119 million according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Irving’s new contract has a player option in the 2027-2028 season. This contract solidifies the Mavs’ core going forward with Anthony Davis and Irving as cornerstones to be joined by pick Cooper Flagg, presumed by most to be a lock for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Irving has been one of the NBA’s premier guards over the past three seasons with the Mavs, averaging 25.5 points with 5.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game on 49% shooting from the field.

The Mavs will be without Irving for portions of next season while the guard recovers from a torn ACL, which is expected to keep him out until January.
