Dallas Mavericks win NBA Draft Lottery for first time in franchise history

Defying astronomical odds, the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA Draft Lottery on Monday for the first time in franchise history, landing the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Duke product Cooper Flagg is the presumptive top selection.

Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in his lone season at Duke while earning a consensus first-team All-American selection.

The Mavs receive the No. 1 selection despite coming into the lottery with only a 1.8% chance of getting the top pick and an 8.5% chance of landing in the top four.

The rest of the lottery selections are listed below.

1. Dallas Mavericks

2. San Antonio Spurs

3. Philadelphia 76ers

4. Charlotte Hornets

5. Utah Jazz

6. Washington Wizards

7. New Orleans Pelicans

8. Brooklyn Nets

9. Toronto Raptors

10. Houston Rockets (from Phoenix Suns)

11. Portland Trail Blazers

12. Chicago Bulls

13. Atlanta Hawks (from Sacramento Kings)

14. San Antonio Spurs (from Atlanta Hawks)

Rolando Blackman, the No. 9 pick in the 1981 NBA Draft, was the Mavericks’ lottery representative. He had his jersey retired by the franchise in 2000 after 11 years with the team.

The Mavs could have a momentous offseason as they rebuild their team around Anthony Davis. After trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Mavs will now likely add one of the most heralded prospects in recent NBA history in Flagg.

The NBA draft will be held June 25-26 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
